Dear Friends, I first met Jasmine at my photographic workshop in NYC. During the intro to the class, I always ask each stylist about their motivation and expectation of the class. During this time the stylists have the opportunity to share who they are, a time I personally love, as we get to know each other. When it came to Jasmines turn to share, my jaw dropped in amazement!
You see Jasmine had only been at Cosmetology school for 3 weeks and her ultimate goal was to become an editorial stylist. She was surrounded by very seasoned stylists in the class and I confess I asked myself ‘how was this going to work’? Surely Jasmine would be struggling to keep up? I asked what were you doing before beauty school? she replied “A nurse in intensive care”. Ok I thought this is a smart lady who can follow directions. So I said to Jasmine, ‘you can stay in the class as long as you follow my directions and go slow’. Long story short. Jasmine was the star of the class, she listened to every direction, did exactly what she was told and got a great result. I told her ‘Great beginnings last a lifetime’ and that the goal was to develop excellent habits and then increase speed only when she had developed good form with total understanding of the techniques. I was so impressed by her teachable spirit, that I took Jasmine under my wing.
She assisted me back stage at shows, photo shoots, and the filming of HDTV , to which she was featured in our cutting course and the art of razor cutting. Two years after our meeting Jasmine entered NAHA, got two nominations and won Texture category what a sweet victory for a girl with a dream and a teachable spirit.

The moral of the story is to keep a teachable spirit, stay humble and curious, and always learn from the best of the best to be your very best. Stay hungry to learn and always find the courage to reinvent your self. Thank you Jasmine for being an inspiration in my life.
